Hello,

I have a Mitel 5330 operating in SIP mode with Asterisk. It works fine except I can't figure out the dial plan syntax - I can't find any documentation beyond the incomplete "hints" in the Web GUI. I'm trying to set up automatic 10-digit dialing using the following string:

[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx.T

It's not working. The problems are that I don't know if that's the correct syntax, and the dial plan string entry field only seems to accept up to 16 characters which is too short for the above string. Does anyone know the dial plan syntax for this phone? I assume it's the same for the entire 53xx series.

Thanks
Nick

xxxxxxxxxx ?

Thanks. The problem with xxxxxxxxxx is that it will match long-distance calls starting with 011 as well (e.g. overseas calls), and begin dialing before I finish entering the number. That's why I'd like to limit the first digits to 2-9 for valid North American area codes.

I guess I could manually specify the local area codes in my area (Montreal), i.e. 514xxxxxxx, 438xxxxxxx and 450xxxxxxx.

Also, do you know what the Digit Follow and Suffix parameters control for each dial plan entry?

Best Regards,

I am now hearing that you are not limited to 16 digits but that you can have multiple entries of 16 digits

With this in mind

N = digits 2-9

NXXNXXxxxx = Standard NA 10 digit local calling

Yes sorry, I should have mentioned that there are 10 16-digit entries. I'll try what you suggested; it should work. It's somewhat disappointing that Mitel doesn't seem to offer a more concise option like in my initial post ([2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx).

I'll report back.

Thanks
Nick

When you have more than 1 entry, your options are actually more concise

The other method works but is far less intuitive and readable as far as I am concerned.

One method is developed from the Telephony perspective and the other from Data.

It all depends on your point of view.

Don't forget an ARS access code if you are using one.

Hmm... I tried entering 514xxxxxxx but it doesn't work - the phone does not auto-dial. Tried rebooting and still no go.

does the system require an access code like 9

No, just straight dialing of area code + number. Strange...
