Missing Root folder permissions

An odd one here!

I have just moved several XP Pro machines from one domain to another and in doing so I was left with several permssion entries on folders just showing the SID from a previous domain user.

Upon trying to delete this permission Windows says that the permission is inherited from the root folder C: but looking at the permissions for C: there is no such entry?

Any ideas? Thanks

Indeed, odd.

Could you describe how you "unjoined" the original Domain, and then joined the new?

This is not something that XP handles very gracefully. I have done the intermediate step of:

. Change from Domain to Workgroup, with the workgroup name identical to the old Domain;
. Resolve issues;
. Transition from Workgroup to new Workgroup with the name the new Domain;
. Resolve issues.
. Change from workgroup to new Domain.

As a practical matter I make a backup of the user profiles and re-image the machines or do a clean install. But the odd four-part dance from domain to workgroup to new workgroup to new domain has worked for me.
