Afternoon,

We currently have two servers in our site ServerA and ServerB which are both running exchange 5.5. We plan to take serverA out of service due to its age. We have moved all mailboxes from serverA to ServerB and everything appears to be going to plan.

The only thing I have noticed is that when I am on serverB looking at the properties of a mailbox, I do not see a permissions tab. However, if I log onto serverA and do the same thing then the permissions tab is visible. I am probably being really stupid but how do I get the permissions tab on serverB, or will it just appear when I remove serverA from the site. Many Thanks

It's a setting in Options of the Administrator program: it's per Admin instance, not per server.

Thanks for the reply I now have the permission tab back :)

Whilst you're at it, the settings for AutoName generation are also specific to the Admin client instance, so if you have non-default Display Name and Alias generation, you should set these on the 2nd server's Admin as well.

Before you remove the first server from the site, be sure to check Microsoft's TechNet article on the subject. Go to go to the advanced search page, and searh for 'remove first server'.
