My monitor goes black. I reboot and startup and bios shows no HDD present. When I ask bios to auto search there is a 50/50 chance it will find any or all of the 2 HDDs. Battery seems good. I leave computer off for a while and restart and all is fine. What's happening here?

Could be a lot of different problems. First thing if do you manage to get your HDs running DO AN IMMEDIATE BACKUP, HECK MAKE TWO OF THEM. Then you can start troubleshooting. It can be the HDs themselves, it can be the controller (is the controller onboard). It can be the power supply. I would start by swapping the power supply since both HDs are not detected and it's the easiest. It's kind of rare (not unknown of) that both HDs die at the same time. It can be a heat issue. I would then replace the MB.
