The computer bios recognizes the presence of the 3.5 floppy, but it fails to show up under windows 2000. If you leave a floppy in the drive, it will give the famous "remove disk and strike any key" type message. I've already replaced the drive itself with a new one, just in case, but still the same problem.... any help appreciated!

Can you boot from a boot floppy?

Go to Start > Run and enter A: in the box. Does this open the floppy drive folder?

Is it in the Device Manager?

I appreciate the responses. The pc is located in another building I support, and I haven't had time today to get back to it. I'll answer tomorrow.

Okay, so it's a lot later than "tomorrow", (been frying bigger fish) however to respond to your questions, the machine will indeed boot from a floppy, however it will not hit the floppy drive from the run command... I think there is a possibility of a missing system file, somewhere. Any help appreciated

Have you tried installing a floppy drive from Control Panel > Add New Hardware ?

The fact that you can boot from the floppy but Win2K doesn't see it is strange. You looked in Device Manager to see if a Floppy Drive is listed there?

TweakUI is a utility that can "hide" your floppy drive but I don't think it blocks access to it. See if TweakUI is installed in the Control Panel.
