Win Xp Home Edition. Up until couple of days ago I was able to display all my hard drives(Disk 0 - C:, Disk 1 - E:, Disk2 F: and G:) using MyComputer or Explorer. All of the sudden two of the four drives (E: and F:) were not there any more. I went to Computer Manage -> Disk Management and the two missing drives are there. I am able to defrag them and do everything else except for Explore. When I click on Explore I get the following message "The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." I have run Spyware and Norton Antivirus - all cleaned. By the way, I have one application that resides in one the drives and it is working fine. I have research the situation but got nothing. Can someone tell what happened and what to do to restore the ability to explore the drives and make them visible in MyComputer? Thank you for your help.

Are they visible from Safe Mode, or from Normal Mode but as a different user?

Has any one actually hidden the drives using software like TweakUI?

Are you running any protective software like "Go Back" or Norton Protect (can't remember the exact name)?

Have you tried System Restore to a point before the problem?

linney,
Thanks for your input.
The Drives are visible and usable from Safe Mode. No one has hidden the drives, I do not believe I have TweakUI and if I do, I have never use it. Yes, I am running Go Back from Norton. When I get home tonight I will look into it. And lastly I have not tried System Restore. Any other information is greatly appreciated.

I am sorry I did not get back sooner. After I checked everything recommended before the situation has not changed. I just discovered that if I change the user all the drives will show up under any other user. It seems that the two drivers disappeared under my User Id. Any advise? It will be appreciated.
Once again, Thank for your help.

Can you check that there is not a Permissions problem with that suspect username, you may even have to add that one username itself (even if it is supposedly covered by a Group)?

You may have run into a corrupted profile problem too?
