I am new to Windows 2003 Server. My company is asking all sites to migrate from Novell to Windows 2003 Server with AD in the next few months. My Novell box is fairly new and robust and I'd like to use it as the Windows server.
What we'd like to do is install an older computer with Windows 2003 Server - let's call it "OLDMAN" and set up users, printers, etc and test everything. OLDMAN will be the only computer in the domain. Then when we're sure that everything is good to go, we would like to blow away the Novell installation, and install Windows 2003 Server on the box. Let's call the computer "FORMER_NOVELL" which will be the second computer in the domain.
Here's my questions:
1. Will synching pick up the all of the information we installed on OLDMAN, including the printers, Active Directory, etc and set it up on FORMER_NOVELL.
2. Will we need an additional server license to set up this way. We plan to disconnect and reformat the OLDMAN server when FORMER_NOVELL is handling all the server chores and users are logging in without any problems. (For the record, those aren't the real neames we'll assign the servers!)
3. Is there an easier way accomplish all of this?
Thanks in advance.
