I have a quick question concerning software mirroring in Windows 2000. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2000 server which has two drives. Drive 0, which is the system disk (C:\) and then drive 1, which is a mirror of drive 0.

I want to remove the mirror, as I'd rather use the other drive for storage. The server can be rebuilt very easily and I don't want the overhead anymore.

In disk management, if I right click EITHER of the drives, it gives me the option of removing the mirror. I'm assuming that I would want to right-click drive 1 and remove the mirror from here correct?

If this is correct, why would anyone want to do it the reverse way? I guess I'm just confused as the option is present for either of the drives.

Since they are a single logical unit, you can break the mirror by clicking on either drive.

Isn't the drive you pick to break the mirror from determine which one will become the active drive?

Disk 0 should always become the boot drive.

No, it won't matter. As AlexIT stated, it will boot to the first drive (o).
