Hello,

We have a Compaq server that has failed. It has has a mirrored drive array. Is it possible to move one of the mirrored drives to another Windows 2000 server and be able to read the data on that mirrored drive so it can be recovered? Any hints or advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Rod

I should note that this is a hardware mirroring done on the Compaq drive array card, not Windows 2000 mirroring.

Yes, if the hardware is identical, after doing a soft shutdown on the box and the drive has been fully generated, you should be able to place the drive in the other box and boot it. The only thing you may have to tinker with is the boot.ini file.

Thanks for replying. We did go ahead and move the drive over. We were able to access it from Win2k on the machine we moved it to. We had to take ownership of the files we needed access to then move the files to a machine we are using to temporarily replace the failed server. So, things are almost back to normal.

Thanks again,
Rod
