Hello all!
Win 2k SP4, all current critical updates. RAID 1, mounted volume on the C drive.

I came in a couple days ago, and found the event log filled with errors about bad blocks on Disk 1, and the mirror was broken. I tried to reestablish, but that worked for exactly 15 seconds before it broke again. a few of the bad blocks were successfully reassigned, but one was not.

This may be a stupid question, but can I just reformat Disk 1, then re-establish the mirror?

If not, what do I need to do?

Thanks!
Corie

reformat..
or replace.
but a broken mirror can be repaired, avoiding you the standard 7 years bad luck

Aftertaf
if its not broken, fix it anyway - with luck you might break it and have an excuse

Cool! I'll format tomorrow morning to see if I can avoid the 7 year sentence... :)

Thanks,
Corie

Well, no luck. I started the format and when it was at 11% after 4 hours, I knew it wouldn't work. So much for that.
At least it's still under warranty, so I shipped it off.

At this point, I'm running off a single disk, and doing full backups every night. Once the new hard drive arrives, I'll install and recreate the mirror.

how did you get the machine to boot up off the other mirrored disk. I am having similar problems with my first disk but I can not figure out how to make my server run off the other mirrored disk. Can you tell me the steps you took to accomplish this?

I have my startup options set to display all OS's (the mirror is listed here) for 3 seconds before starting the default OS, in case of something like this.

Try this: Start the server, hit F-8 for other startup options, choose safe mode, then I believe you should get a choice of which OS and profile you want. Once the server starts, set the proper OS to start.

Hope this helps,
Corie
