I am trying to mirror two drives of a new HP 2003 server. Both drives are SCSI and are formatted NTFS. Both drives are converted to dynamic.

My problem now is that the Mirror option on the menu is disabled. Any ideas what I have done wrong or why the option is disabled?

Thanks
David

Are you attempting to do software based mirroring within the OS? Or, are you attempting to do it from within the RAID controller? You don't want software based RAID if you can avoid it.

From within Windows 2003. We ordered this server as a RAID 1 with two 140 GB drives. When it arrived I found no RAID software included so I contacted HP and was advised that the software to do the RAID 1 was part of W2K3, so I followed the instructions found on the MS KB to create a mirrored drive. At the final step, mirroring the drives, the option was disabled on the menu. I have researched the problem and have found nothing about Windows disabling the mirror option. I'm stuck at this point.

Well i sure hope you didnt pay extra for the Raid1 ;-) but the one thing i can think of is are the drives reporting the same size. My point being if for what ever reason the second drive is reporting smaller than the first drive it wont mirror. cant mirror a bigger drive to a smaller dive if you get my point.

Well, there wouldn't be RAID "software" included - it would be hardware based directly on the controller. Have the OS do it is going to cost performance.

RoadKill and 58Sniper thanks for the replies. Duh, I had the cables plugged in backwards! No problem, all fixed now.

Thanks again,
David.
