Hi.
I have been experiencing this problem for some time now, and happens when I view a majority of my movie files.
When I click them, or have it so they are viewed as THUMBNAILS (so it reads each file), a window pops up, saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
At the bottom of that box I can get more information, and it is shown right here -
Well could someone please help.
Thanks.....Foordy....

Well this post is quickly being forgotten. :(
No-one can help?

Tell us more about Minidivx. Most references to it on the net are not in English (Spanish I think).

Just some loosely related links for you to peruse in the meantime. (Probably not much help to you, but they might lead you somewhere).

Some general things to try.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?) .

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

I have no idea what MINIDIVX.AX is, it is just the error I am receiving.
In "Safe Mode", it still happens...
I did chkdsk, it still happens...
I have formatted several times over, not just for this reason, it still happens.
Take note, this is on another partition I use, just to keep there so when I format, it doesn't format that partition, which is just the partition I keep for backed up files...

I have no idea what else to try, please help some more.

Minidivx.ax, I am guessing is a file from something involving Mini Divx Launcher. A freeware divx program.

Mini DivX Launcher which offers fully automated codec installation and movie launch.

If you have this installed on your machine you could try uninstalling it to see if the error goes away.

I tried downloading the new Media Player, that didn't work.
I will later try get a whole new player and set that as default, and see if it happens then.

OK!
I have been having a brain block?
Searched for files called "minidivx.ax", it turns out it is a file from my SVCD player.
I deleted it, (just the minidivx.ax file), and a majority less of my movies don't do it.
My SVCD player had no file associations, so I have no idea how that affected it.
Anyway, now I got another error for some of my vids, and they was "unknown module" or something, so I uninstalled my whole SVCD player, and it works.
:)))
Now from one of the sites you pointed me to, I have found a SVCD codec, and now shouldn't need my "FAULTY" SVCD player again.
Thankyou.
