i need to move a couple of servers including another tree

i also want to take their parent container, so effectively cut part of the tree and graft in onto the other.
the container also has a groupwise 6.5.1 domain and poa in it.

now i beleive the server , user's data etc can be moved with the consolidation wizard.

does this take the users etc?

how can i take the grpwise and resync to the users?

any suggested methods or a mix ie part ice , consolidation etc

netware version is 6 sp3

When you do a tree merge, the souce tree will basicly die and the top level O will be added to the destination tree. All user information will be carried over. The only tricky part in doing a tree merge is the schema, it has to be exact. I will do a remote import both ways a couple of times to ensure the schema is synced.

The groupwise system should stay intact, but you may have to do a top down rebuild and regraph user and resources. If you use document managment, expect to send db files to novell to be repaired by NTS.

To move the new O to a new location in the destination tree, just partition it and move the partition.

Be sure to do a trustee backup and restore the trustee rights after the merge. They should be okay, but since your consolodating servers, you will need to do this. Just depends on the order you do it in. Get the backup anyway.

And for the benifit of others, before you do anything like this, backup. Get a good backup and ensure the backup is good by testing it.

sorry i wasnt clear - i cant merge the whole tree - i just what to take part of one tree ie from an ou level and graft it onto the other.

i know i can move the server and the data across that way and it should take the users rights etc but how do i get the users across and the grpwise associations

hmmm, not sure, but here is an idea.

Take a test server and insert it into the source tree and give it a copy of all replicas. Then unplug it from that network and do the needed clean up on both sides (remove the test server from all replica rings on the other side and remove all the other server from the test server replica ring and make the test server master of everything). Merge the two trees, partition the OU you want and move it to the location you want. Kill the rest.

GroupWise 6.5 has some great user migration tools in it now. You can link the two domains together and move the users across. Then in eDirectory, just assign the users to the new PO and the system will tell you there is a user in the GroupWise database with the exact user ID, are they the same? you tell it yes and the NDS obejct and GroupWise obejct will be linked.
