Hi

Can someone tell me which steps have to be performed to migrate an NT domain into a 2000 AD domain (user accounts, domain settings, etc.)? All information is welcome, including links to tutorial sites or walkthroughs.

I need to migrate an NT server to a 2000 Server, on different machines (no upgrade), and I'd like to take the settings from the old network (although there aren't that many user accounts, I'd like to know how these accounts are supposed to be transferred).

Thanks!

I'd recommend you read the series of M$ white papers about all this before anything else, search in technet for:
"Upgrading a Windows NT Domain to Windows 2000 Active Directory"
"Planning Migration from Windows NT to Windows 2000"

But for a simple answer - Install NT4.0 onto the NEW server, making it a BDC for your network. Now upgrade the NEW server to PDC, automatically demoting the old one to BDC. Take the old server offline (lock in closet unplugged for safety) and then upgrade the NEW server from NT4.0 PDC to Win2K and you will have this set up in mixed-mode, with all users now in AD and your domain settings copied. Now reconnect the old server as an extra BDC...your first step is done.

All went well, thanks to the MS articles and your description. Thanks!

Use ADMT(Active Directory Migration Tool) to migrate your user accounts.
