I will be migrating my WinNT/Exchange 5.5 env to Win2k/Exchange 2000 in the near future.

We have three servers all running WinNT 4.0 sp6a. I purchased a new server that will run Win2k. I want to upgrade one server at a time but keep all the servers online while I am doing this. Is it possible to migrate my network in sections and still have a full Win2k environment (active Directory) when I am finished?

Secondly, most of my workstations are already Win2k Pro connecting to an NT domain. I read somewhere that it's best to upgrade your servers first, then your workstations. I was unable to do this because of cost constraints at the time. Am I going to have a problem migrating them to a Win2k Domain? Will I have to reinstall them to do it properly?

Thanks

I forgot one thing. Can I use a Unix DNS server with Active Directory?

thanks again.

1) yes, you can migrate/upgrade in sections

2) Not a problem. If you're keeping the same domain name, no further config should be needed. At worst, you may need to remove them from their current membership and join them back, but reinstall should not be needed.

3) Yes, as long as it's BIND version 8 or better. It must be able to support DDNS and SRV records.
