Migrating Windows NT 4.0 Domain to AD mixed mode

Is there a way to transfer the Domain information from the NT Domain to a new AD domain that is in Mixed mode? I looked at the Active Directory Migration Tool but it requires the Active Directory to be in Native mode and I am not sure I can do that.

We currently have a NT domain and are moving to the AD Domain but we want this to be a gradual process and not all at once. I was wondering how would I go about doing this since this is a totally new Server.

Any Infomation you can provide would be helpful.

P.S. Most of our servers are windows 2k but the DC's are NT and we have a unix box also.

I also need to change the name of the domain. Is this possible. I would need to change it from "abc" to Lafb.com.
