Moving from 2000 to 2003. I've used the ADMT to migrate user accounts and computer accounts. During the User account migration, it refers to translating roaming profiles. When I've done it, all it does is add a reference to the old profile path in the new user account on the new domain. It doesn't move the profile to the new server and I can't find a way to do it.

It won't move that as many people store user profiles in different places on the server. Its just personal pref.

By using the tool its copied the SID for each user into the new server / domain (etc) to stop you experiancing profile problems when the logon to the new server, however its your responsibilty to move the profiles to the new server. Just up and move your \\server\profiles \\server\users or whatever share you created on the old server and move it to the new. Then share it again and update the setting in Active Directory Users and Computers.

I've found that by just moving the share to the new server, I often get messages at the client stating that it could not find/load the server copy of the profile. When moving the folders, I need to take ownership of them because by default the admin doesn't have rights to the folders. I've made sure that after the move the ownership on the user's profile folder is set to their account and permissions are correct. I've set the profile path on the account to the new location. It seems that there must be a proven step by step way to do it. I can't imagine that large companies do one folder/user at a time.

I just used CMD line X-COPY using the switches to retail the permissions.
