I am in the process of creating a domain controller to controll 3 locations, and connect about 7-10 servers.

Question ?
If I create the domain controller on a Windows 2000 server and adventually 1) Upgrade the server (meaning new server entirely) and 2) Upgrade the OS (2003) is it possible to make these two changes smoothly without having to re-setup the entire network permissions, shares and so on?

Yes, the upgrade to Win2K3 is a smooth one. You would not have to setup AD again. I would however suggest that you make sure you have a second DC in the mix for safety.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
