Migrating Novell using MSDSS

I'm setting up a test lab for the migration and just installed windows 2000 server, ran the AD installation, installed client 4.8, and MSDSS. When i run the directory synch it tells me it cannot find a domain controller running MSDSS. When i click ok it takes me to the snap-in but does not have option to start the session.

Directory synch was started in services.

not sure what i'm missing.
