Migrating from an old server to a new server

Hi,

I want to know using the Replication is the right way to move or migrate data/users setup/maintenance plans/sp/etc (basically everything)from an old server (Win2000/Sql2000) into a new box (Win2003/Sql2000), then synchronize it?

If not, what is the best solution to migrate the old server into a new server without re-creating all the stuff in the new server? The front end is using Access 2003.

There will be absolutely no access during this migration process and I can only allow to use 2 days to do this project. PLEASE HELP!!

Personally I have used SQLServer's backup/restore utility.
Gets everyting I want, but for me that's just databases, not scheduled backups and such.

If your old and new servers are both SQL 2000 running the same service pack you can backup and restore the system databases (master and msdb) which will copy accross all the user accounts (master), dts packages (msdb), and jobs (msdb).

After you restore the system databases you can simpley restore the user databases and you are up and running.

You can also detach the user databases and then attach them to the new server.

Keep in mind that after you restore the master database on the new server you'll get a bunch of errors when you restart SQL saying that it can't find the databases. That's normal. Just drop all the suspect databases, then restore or attach all your user databases.

If using backup/restore property, how can i get the backup files without the backup tapes device since all the backup files are stored in the old server box?

To new backups to disk on the old server then copy the files to the new server then restore from disk.
