I recently ran into this problem with a customer. All the documentation says, that Active Directory Connector should be run before you install the first Exchange Server 2003 into an Exchange 5.5 organization.
This was not the case, ADC was installed allright, but the ADC Tools wasn't run.
The installation of Exchange Server 2003 will at some point stop the installation if above is the case. If you have set LDAP-Logging to Maximum, you'll find the following error messge in application event log: [tt]Event Id 8270, Source MSADC, Description: LDAP returned the error [13] Constraint Violation when importing the transaction dn: (DN)[/tt] And a bunch of other info.
After running ADC-Tools, as supposed, things were just fine.
