Migrating DNS - Exchange still querying old server 1

Hi

We have recently replaced and upgraded a few of our servers. Exchange 2003 was migrated from an aging server to a new one, and the Active Directory master server role has been taken over by a new server.

This has all worked well, with the exception that the new Exchange Server still seems to rely on the old master DC/DNS server for something. DNS has been set up identically on the new DC/DNS server, and any reference to this nameserver has been updated on all servers.

Regardless, if I shut down the old server, Exchange 2003 becomes inoperational. The core service fails and halts, and until the old DNS server is booted again, Exchange remains dead.

Now, Exchange is not my area of expertise, but in the vacational absence of the consultant who has an idea, I have to investigate a bit

So - does any of you have any suggestions as to where I should find this dns server reference on our Exchange server?

I would be very grateful for any help

Respectfully,

Check the DNS setting in the TCPIP properties, and ensure this point to your new DNS Servers, if this is correct then check
ESM\admin groups\first admin group\servers\servername\protocols\smtp\default smtp – select the delivery tab & then advance, you will see a Configure external DNS Servers (configure) option, if this option is set if will override the setting in TCPIP for external lookups, which is ok if that's what your looking for, but I prefer not to use this option. So I would remove it if it’s set.

You can also use DCdiag & Netidiag to troubleshoot this kind of issue
