Migrating all file storage from onboard SCSI controller to LSI RAID?

I am attempting to migrate my file system from a U160 (unRAIDed) SCSI hard drive controller onboard the motherboard to a new LSI MegaRAID 320-1 RAID controller.

So far, I have tried to keep it simple by only copying the OS partition (C: drive) onto the LSI controller.

Without disabling the onboard SCSI controller but disconnecting all the old HD's, Windows will boot off the new LSI controller but I get this blue stop screen:

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE <- as I understand it, this is because Windows has not preserved the drive letter (C:\WINNT has become D:\WINNT)

If I disable the onboard SCSI controller I get:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Anyone have any ideas on how to make this a more smooth transition?

Anyone know of any documentation on how to make such a migration?

It appears my mistake was installing the controller card without the hard drives attached and configured. Just loading the drivers for the controller card wasn't good enough because an additional device showed up under the device manager under drives after I added and configured the drives.

Once that happened, I was able to copy the partition from the old controller + drives to the new controller + drives and be able to boot.

From other previous experience, it also appears that it is important NOT to configure any partitions on the new controller + drives or assign drive letters. Otherwise, Windows will preserve that drive letter assignment at startup and it will not match your system drive letter (C: for example).
