I have one AD 2000 Server and would like to move all that information to another Brand New Server. What are some of the best ways to do this. I need to keep the same name of the computer and the rights.

1) Active Directory Migration Tool
2) Restore Active Directory from a Previous Backup along with data folders.
3) any other Suggestions.

Thank you all I appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Before saving your next backup, add a virtual network addapter... add remove hardware, add the driver for a network addapter/microsoft/loopback addapter. That's for just in case. Configure the tcp/ip on it manually so the dns points to 127.0.0.1. Then I would try restoring a full backup to the new computer. 2000 is pretty good about working like 98 on plug and play. You might have to do safe mode and delete all the system drivers/other drivers and let windows redetect the new stuff (leave the loopback for now). Once you get all the new drivers in, you can remove the loopback. BTW, the loopback will allow your server to atleast see a network card until you install drivers for the new one.

One final note. If you are changing the location of the system partition (i.e. going from ide to scsii), you'll need to edit the boot.ini to reflect this before starting the new computer.
