I have one Citrix server (Metaframe Xpa, 20 users) and need to replace this with a higher specification box. Any advice on the key points that I should include in my plan would be very much appreciated.

For instance, can the new server be given the same name as the current server and then be connected to the network safely? - even though they have different IP addresses.

Upon completion of migration I would like to allocate the new server with the IP address assigned to the current server - clients are configured to connect to the current server by IP address and not server name.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

hi,
you have xpa (a=advanced, you have paid load.balance) :
why not maintain 2 servers ?

In this case, license remain in S1, you join S2 in your SeverFarm and the impact to the field is minimum and very scalable.

However you cannot re-use S1 for another purpose.

Hi Victor,

Thank you for your response. I am unable to use S1 because it is destined to be used for something else. Any further adice would be appreciated.

Thanks

hi,

you have 2 ways

1) install new server (network detached) with same name/address of old, install MF, migrate MF license using mycitrix.com and nigt-time, try to shutdown S1, attach S2 to the lan and try.

I will follow another way

2) install new server with new name/ipaddr, create new ServerFarm, migrate license, install product, and go at client side and switch gradually to new environment

bye

Ok. Option 1 presents one major difficulty; this being that in order to install and test one of the main business applications S2 would need to be on the LAN.

Option 2 is better from an installation and testing point of view, and I guess with adequate support instruction/advice would not be a more obstacle.

I may opt for option 2

Thanks for your help
