Hi all,

I have to migrate from AD 2000 to AD 2003.
At the moment there are Win2000 and Win2003 in the domain.

Other application servers:
Exchange 2003
SUS Server
SQL 7 Server
Citrix
2 ISA Servers
Galaxy Backup Server
..and so on

Where could I find the informations to migrate to 2003 with less problems ?
Could be book, web page, experiences and other

thanks and regards

Do you already have 2003 DCs?

All that is necessary is to run:

ADPREP /FORESTPREP
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP

You can then DCPROMO a 2003 server into the domain. Transfer the FSMO roles from a 2000 machine and then you DCPROMO the 2000 machines to get rid of the 2000 DCs.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Check out my scripting solutions at

No,we have no 2003DCs

So if I understand its really seay do do the migration....
Build a 2003 Server
Start the ADPREP commands
Strt DCPROMO on the 2003 server
I'm not really so sure, I've heard a lot of terrific things about rhe AD migration.

There CAN be a lot more to it. I have a list of links below you might want to review before doing the upgrade:

Quote from the top of this article: "Several glossy Microsoft presenters have stated that all you need to do to complete a Windows 2003 Domain upgrade is run ADPREP and then upgrade away. This may work for very small / simple environments but it is definitely not good advice for most companies. After upgrading five servers in two unrelated domains and installing many fresh copies of 2003 I can say that I personally would not skip a single step in the process I have developed below."

WOW !!!!!

I'll try to do / check all this.
I hope it's enough.
