I am using Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 to make a new Final Fantasy game site, this is not my first time making a web site or using Dreamweaver....I have just never wanted to have a site that has downloads on it. The main kind of downloads I have are midi music files and flash movie files....I have asked my hosting company several times to tell me what I need to do to have downloads without giving the person full FTP access, but they have been very unsupportative. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

You can let the user use the http: protocol for their download. Instead of making the link the file look like:

[tab]ftp://myhost.com/finalfantasy/tips.txt

use:

[tab]
You will need to put a piece of text on the page instructing the user to right-click and select "Save As...", otherwise the browser will attempt to open the file.

Thank you so much....I did what you said and it worked, That was actually the reason why I haven't released my new site layout yet...because it focuses very heavily on the downloads section and it would be a little dumb to have a downloads section that didn't work and I was not about to give anyone FTP access.
