I thought I would post this on a new post:

This customer wants to use LOOP lines instead of the PRI. Let me ask you. In this carrier I have a fiber card for the station module and then there is the card that the PRI plugs into.

I have a 25 pair AMP with 24 LOOPs plugged into the carrier. I can not seem to get dial tone to the station sets there is another system already installed with POTS lines and I get dial tone at the station sets just fine.

Do I need to install analog loop cards into the carrier for example 8 ports trunk cards or will just plugging the AMP cable into the port with the Telephone Pole icon allow me to pull dial tone.

What cards should be in what slots for this carrier?

I answered this in the other thread, but thought I'd make sure you saw my answer.

Each DS card allows 4 loop-start trunks. Slot 4 is lines 001-004, and slot 3 is lines 025-028 (or 031-034) depending on software level. You must install 2 DS cards to be able to access all 8 trunks. The digital line card must be replaced with a DS card and then the slot must be reconfigured in Hardware for a loop card instead of PRI. The slot must be disabled in Maintenance before you can change the card type, then enabled after changes have been made.

Thanks Brian. So am I correct in assuming that this style carrier can handle a total of 3 DS Loop cards for a total of 12 loops lines?

This client was using a T-1 and had 24 lines via that T. Due to lack of cable facilities he can not reinstall the T at this time.

I have installed 24 loop ( POTS ) lines at this demarc and he wants to be able to use all 24. What carrier card config. should I use to accomidate all 24? Do I need an expansion unit or are there for example 8 or 16 port card port cards available?

No, the main cabinet only has 2 card slots for line cards. The 2 skinny slots are for expansion or services cards. To get to 24 lines you will need 2 expansion trunk modules and 4 additional DS trunk cards. Each trunk mod has 3 card slots for line cards. Your fiber expansion will have to be a 6-port to accomodate the 2 trunk mods as you stated you already have an expansion station mod installed.

I just returned from the site. Thanks for the help. I pulled his T1 card and installed two DS cards I pulled from one of my unused carriers, installed them and got all 8 lines in service and right now 16 stations working including hte NAM.

He used his 2 port fiber card for use with a digital and anaglog station expansion module. These are not in service right now since he does not need more stations nor anaglog stations. He use to use a fax service and needed the anaglog module for that.

So then you are saying that I need a total of 4 DS card housed in 2 modules and that each DS module requires ( 2 ) fiber cables that must run into the KSU fiber card with could that just be a 4 port fiber module?

Do you have a good source for these items how about Metroline?

Thanks. I am going to talk with him tomorrow and tell him what his options are.

In regards to the T-1 ( PRI-A ) card I removed. How many channels does each T-1 card support?

Brian, what does DS stand for? Ihave seen posts regarding DS and NON-DS 4 port loop cards.

I understand. Tired to reach you via your web page but no email address link.
