I've got a customer with a MICS 4.1 system and a Call Pilot 150. We're getting ready to move them from a regular T1 over to a PRI and it looks like from what i've read it would work better for them if they were at 7.1. Is this true and is there any problems/ special tips I need to be aware of before I propose this.

There were known issues with 4.1 and PRI that does not mean that you will have any though. I've had alot with no issues at all and systems with issues. It's a roll of the dice. I do know that if you ever need Nortel support on the PRI then they will tell you to upgrade first. If you do upgrade then don't forget to upgrade the Call Pilot also.

I totally agree with hawks. If you read these threads allot, everyone makes it sound like you'll inevitably have problems with PRI on MICS 4.1, I've never had one. Maybe, because all of my work was SoCal with generally good Telco.

I'd go for it.

Adversity is Opportunity

Anytime I put a PRI on a MICS, I bring 7.1, and a new NVRAM cartridge with me. The troubles I've had with pre- 7.1 sw have been rare, but when they occur, your customer is screwed until you can resolve them.

Like Dewey said, I'd try it at the current level, but be ready if something doesn't work right. If you do have trouble, and the Telco verifies config, and tests good with a Tberd, I'd upgrade sw.

First off thanks for the good info. Now, if i'm bringing the system up from 4.1 to 7.1, is it a straight forward upgrade or am I going to have to stair step them up. Can go straight from 4.1 to 7.1, is there a 7.1 upgrade tool? I deal with mainly systems that are at 4.1 and 5.0. So any info is good. Thanks in advance.

Another question.. If i'm upgrading the KSU to 7.1, what release does the Call Pilot 150 need to be at?

If you want to maintain programming then yes there is an upgrade tool you need. The Call Pilot needs to be a min of 3.0.
