My father uses Win98SE. He likes to play some games from for amusement but the games are no longer working. He thinks it stopped working after applying a Windows update.

When he tries to load a game, he gets a white box with the little placeholder logo (the one with the box, triangle, etc).

I've checked all his settings for Microsoft's VM and everything is set correctly.

I installed the Sun Java version and this worked; however, his system is too slow to run it efficiently and I had to uninstall the Sun Java version.

I'm baffled why Java is not working on his system.

Any ideas?

I did look this over. I have reinstalled the Microsoft VM but there is no change. I haven't tried the jview command in DOS but not sure if it will work with W98. Will try it next time I'm over there.
