I have Windows XP on my home computer and can only access the internet via dial-up due to my remote location. The Microsoft Updates Site tells me I need 33 critical patches that total 32Mb. I actually tried downloading these via my standard 31K connection (stop laughing), but could never get the whole thing downloaded because the sever connection would get lost once in a while. So, can these updates be obtained via other means than downloading from the internet? If so, then how?

Thank you,
Mike

This thread speaks directly to your issue: thread779-623536 Pack 1 is available on CD from Microsoft for a small fee.

You can divide the rest of the updates into:

1. The large

Mostly Windows Media Player and Directx 9.0b

2. Everything else

Most hotfixes are relatively small in size.

The links in the thread above show how to do them one at a time. Please follow the link in the last message to see an alternative to Qchain for downloading individual hotfixes and applying them through a batch file.

So, the key would be to get the needed patches as individual sessions rather than all at once.

Or use the tricks above and "borrow" a cable or DSL connection from a friend. Your nearest public library may let you do this if you ask nicely.
