Recently I backed up my hard drive xp pro, sp3 on an external hard drive with prolific one button back up. I have an hp zd7000 laptop and did a restore with a clean install of the operating system (original disk that came with computer). I have completed all updates from microsoft back to sp3. I installed the backup program and tried to restore to the laptop but now I get a Microsoft Visual C++ RunTime Library Run Time Error. It says "The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. I hit okay and the program stops without the restore. I have searched high and low and can not find any information on what to do. Please help.

Can XP see your External drive and read and write to it?

Have you tried running your backup program as an Administrator?

As you have a clean working install on your Laptop, what are you trying to restore from the backup, I assume it is only data files and not programs?
