Microsoft outlook with Windows XP

I'm trying to set up MIcrosoft Outlook 2000 on Win XP. The problem i'm having is that it is on a Networked Laptop. I need the user to be able to use the account i set up on the local machine but to also be able to access it when logged onto the network, Any Solutions. Real stuck and i have a vast amount (over 100 laptops) to do asap! :-(

I'm not 100% sure what your problem is, are you saying that when you connect to the network you are unable to open Outlook? I'm guessing that what you are saying is that you would like to have email that can be sent between the computers when they are on the network, but can also be used when the computers are disconnected from the network. If this is the case then you will need to buy Exchange Server for Outlook. This will allow you to have email/contacts/caledar that are available accross the network but also if you configure it correctly will also syncronise the data to the local harddrive when disconnect from the network.

More info needed. What is your e-mail server? I don't really see the problem. Please expand.

Ok i have an XP Laptop. For the Staff to usew these laptops i have to connect them to the domain, so that they can get to there work areas and various network resouces but i also need thme to be able to take the laptops home. Now i've set all that up and have installed office 2000, which includes Microsoft outlook. Each member of staff has an email address and each member of staff has his/her own laptop from us (ie the one i've set up) What i'm trying to do now is set up Outlook with the various email account for that machince plus a contact list. If i set it up when not connected to the domain its fine/vice versa but the problem is its only there one way. E.g I set Outlook up on the laptop while logged onto the network, it works fine, i then unplug the laptop take it home and logon to the machine. I open Outlook and there are no settings :-( how do i get the settings from one into the other without haveing to set it up twice? hope this helps clarify my problem

I'm guessing that your problem is due to the fact that when you are logged into the network you are using a Domain Profile which is containing the Settings. When you are logging in at home you are using a local profile. Off the top of my head I think you will need to log into the Domain account even when you are at home. There is an option to Cache Domain Logons so that even if you cannot connect to your server at work it allows you to use that profile.

When adding the account to the client machine you have to enable offline use.Or in the wizard tick the option "travel with this computer" . That makes outlook.ost file on the client machine (offline store) that will sync with the exchange server when connected to domain. and let the user open outlook and access the mail folder offline from domain.

Or perhaps the customer doesn't have exchange server. But some external mail provider ..

The solution is to configure the email client using
the users account .(and logon to domain not local machine)
The same user account shall be used both on domain and off.
Logon to domain ( not locl machine).

The computer must have joined the domain with the option
to create a local user .
This makes it possible to use the domain logon and same user account whether offline or online .
