Hi. I'm not sure if this is the best forum to post this topic in but I will give it a try. We are currently running a NetWare 4.11 network and are about to upgrade to Windows 2000. We are looking for a way to automatically install the Microsoft client on our Windows 95/98 PCs, through the login script (or anyway really). Does anyone have any suggestions.

Never heard of that way to do your job. One thing you
can do to save a little bit of time. Copy the 98 disk onto
the old server and when told to insert 98 cd-rom, direct
the search on to the novell directory.

To automate processes on a Win2K network, use Visual Basic Scripting. There is an issue if you're currently using the NetWare client where you must use the uninstall.

Kevin,

Do you have any details on exactly how we would do this? We are confused because it's not like you install the client from an executable file or anything, you just add it through the Properties of Network Neighborhood. We aren't sure what to tell it to run, modify, etc... Thanks!!!

My aplogies Angela, my response was generic. The specifics negate my answer. Here are the specifics:

To use logon scripts for push installations, you must do the following:

Install the Windows 98 source files on an installation point.

Create a setup script that includes the Setup command.

Create the logon scripts that will be used to start the installation process.

Example:

If "%OS_VERSION"="v2.00"
and "%PLATFORM"="W98"
then #start \\dist\install\Win98\setup msbatch.inf

There are lots of particulars too lengthy for this forum. THe Windows 98 Resource Kit has a chapter called Setup Technical Discussion that goes into details of this process.

Thanks. This is great but do you know where on the Windows 98 CD I can find the executable that installs the Microsoft Client? Thanks.
