I have a question for those on this forum much more familiar with the Micros system and need/options for upgrading. I’ve read through various threads using the search function and did not find anything recent addressing this.
The situation I’m in is I just purchased a bar (no food) that has Micros e7 with two workstations. The e7 is on an XP machine and is version 2.6 and the workstations are WS5’s. We are currently using the system but not for credit card processing due to not being programmed for routing to our bank. It’s not ideal but since we did not need immediate changes to the system we’re getting by short term.
Our local Micros rep has told me that the license does not transfer with the purchase of the bar and I need to pay for the license transfer which sounds like that is standard. In total they want $3000 dollars for the license transfer, training and implementation, help desk support and hosting (cloud) which is all mandatory for the transfer. I’m now faced with the decision to pay for the license transfer and possible upgrade or look for another solution. Below are some questions I have that would help me though this process.
1. Does the $3000 sound reasonable and is that normal?
2. If I’m paying for a license transfer how long should I expect to be able to comfortably run on XP and e7 version 2.6?
3. My initial though is I would want to get off of XP and if I’m doing that should I upgrade Micros as well?
4. Below are my options as I see it. In your opinion which would you chose?
a. Pay Micros $3000 and run with XP and e7 version 2.6 and get as many miles as I can out of it
b. Upgrade from XP which from what I’ve read will also require an upgrade of e7 as well. This would cost the $3000 (license transfer) plus the Windows and e7 upgrades.
c. Look to see what other options are out there.
d. Other
I am new to the POS world and hopefully the explanation of the situation and my questions make sense.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff
