Micros Barcode Event

Does anyone know if there is an event that is fired when someone scans a barcode? One that I can use in a SIM? I need to change the behavior of the barcode reader for a customer.

To be honest, the best scenario would be to figure out a way to turn it into a keyboard wedge and still catch an event, but even just catching the normal barcode event would be a great help.

Pressing a button first before scanning isn't something the customer is really willing to hear, but if that is what it comes down to...
