I am running a XP Pro machine with a Audigy 2 sound board. My problem is that I can not get a plug in microphone ( 1/8th plug?) to work on the card. A USB microphone works like a charm though. I have downloaded and reinstalled the latest drivers but that had no effect. Also I have verified that the microphone is not muted and the record and playback volume is set to max. I have tried two different plug in microphones and neither of them work.

Does anyone have an idea why the heck a USB microphone will work when a plug in one does not?

I take it you've confirmed with the supplier that these plug-in mikes are suitable for the Audigy soundcard. They ought to have "stereo" type 3.5mm plugs - tip is audio, ring is mike bios, and body is screen or earth. Ok, I know it's unlikely you've got two duff mikes but have you tested them on another machine just to make sure they both work ok?

What programme(s) are you using to test the mike on?

ROGER - G0AOZ.
