Microphone doesn't work 1

I've checked the microphone on my headset by means of yahoo messenger and msn as well, and doesn't work
My sound card is Yamaha OPL3-SAx WDM
Microphone:
Freq response: 20-20khz
Impedance 2.2 Kohms/1KHz
Sensitivity: -54db+-3db

It's well plugged and micro isn't muted
After the echo test on both msn and yahoo chat programs, win98se stays hung

Where do you have the microphone plugged into (not familiar with the rear of that card)? Some cross-linked to the modem with headphone jack on there...

also, if you can test the continuity of the wires of your mic, better do so. cuz this happened to me when i bought a new mic and found out that one of the wires lost its continuity.

Test your mike with the soundrecorder first, that will eliminate a potential hardware issue.
