I created an app in VB 6 and used the deployment wizard to create a setup.exe. When i go to run the setup.exe i get the error, "The destination file is in use. Please ensure that all other appllications are closed." when the setup tries to copy over the files mfc42.dll and msvcrt.dll.

I click ignore, complete the install, and the app runs fine. I have run the install on other computers and still receive this error. Help! What is happening and how do i fix this?

1. Have the client close all running programs.

The problem is that some programs, like print managers, are loaded at Windows start and always running in the background, and use these files. So, the files cannot be replaced.

Or

2. Have the client update to the latest OS service pack.

Or

3. Get a professional installer. *******************************************************
General remarks:
If this post contains any suggestions for the use or distribution of code, components or files of any sort, it is still your responsibility to assure that you have the proper license and distribution rights to do so!

3. Get a professional installer.

Does anybody know which is the best one?
I'm having a lot of problems with the
VB deployment wizard also.

Wise is good. I use installmaker, cheap and cheerful and does the job. It asks for a reboot for these files and copies then then. Peter Meachem
