Hi Everyone,

Sort of a strange one here. I have built a large company website for my organisation. But I dont want to have to type in the meta tags to everypage, and then have to go through and change them when the boss changes his mind.
So I have placed the meta tags in a seperate asp page and have used a server.execute to insert it into the head of all the asp pages. This works great when you call the page through a browser, the script work's and the meta tags are inserted. Does anyone know if these tags will also be picked up by the search engines and robots as they search through the site?

Thanks for your help

Nick.

your question would be better in forum828

but yes, they would. Though using server.execute is a little OTT <!--#include virtual="filename"--> would work just as well.

Having said that meta keywords mean very little to the mainstream SEs now anyway so even having none at all will make precious little difference.

Thanks for your quick reply Chris,

I appologise, I was unsure which forum would be best suited for this question.

Are the meta tag's not important anymore? What do the latest search engines look for?

thanks again

Nick

the only meta useful for SEs is the description tag and really mainly for display purposes. MSN and Yahoo will show the description contents plus some on page text as the SERP description, Google will only show the description if no on page text matches the search phrase\words.

meta keywords are ignored for ranking purposes in favour of on page content and anchor text.
