Is there a way to change the .tif to a .pdf when you receive a fax using Message Manager / Intuity . In other words all the file extension now are .tif .. is there a setting that allows one to change it to a .pdf ?

BoBAz,

no. tiff is just another picture file format, and pdf stands for 'portable document format'. more of that, adobe owns this format and patent for it, so avaya would have to pay them for using pdf in their software. considering that converting tiff to pdf is just short of being completely useless, i don't think they'll do it.

I asked Avaya about this during one of their product demos down in NJ - at the time, they had no plans to do this. I've seen that .pdf's don't need as much storage space as a .tiff file does - changing the file types would alleviate storage issues.

SparkyDTMF - I couldnt agree more..I am not sure why Dwalin feels so strong about it..but to each there own! I guess.. I have broght the question up in the users group here in the midwest too... I was hoping that maybe someone out there had maybe stumbled across a method of doing this outside avaya..

Warm Regards,

SparkyDTMF,

maybe i didn't make myself clear. pdf is a document format, just like microsoft word's but portable across different platforms. tiff, on the other hand, is just a picture, and uncompressed as it may be. so instead of converting tiff to pdf which requires special software that you (or avaya) must license from adobe, you may just convert these tiff files in some other picture format, compressed and taking much less storage space than even pdf does. considering that faxes are black-and-white pictures with low resolution, you may use gif or png formats. there are plenty of conversion (and viewer) programs out there, you may use any of them.
