message light goes out- desktop messaging

I recently added desktop messaging to a user. Since the load, anytime he gets a new message, 5 sec to 5 min later, his message light will go out without the message actually being listened to. It also shows as "read" on the desktop side.

For troubleshooting, I have uninstalled and reinstalled desktop messaging, rebuilt the VM, verified the software settings of his 3904 to make sure its current. Still no luck. I checked his outlook rules to make sure nothing was auto reading the message. I verified his desktop messaging settings and they are good. They also match the other user's settings that have desktop messaging with no issues.

The user has XP and Outlook 2003. I have another user that has that as well without issues.

Any suggestions?

Check the Outlook settings for that user again to see if the Preview pane is enabled.

FYI, I have found the issue. The user was using Google's desktop search feature. For some reason, that interferred with desktop messaging. Uninstalled the Google Desktop feature and it resolved the issue.
