Our Mermail has locked up 3 days in a row now. AT&T (we have a maintenance contract) has sent a tech out and the first 2 days, supposedly he just rebooted Mermail and 'reinitialized the link' which I can't find anything on.

We're waiting on a tech today.

I tried to get an upgrade approved a few years ago but failed, so I'm going to try again based on this week's happenings. We're on release 25 on the Opt 11c.

Anyway, the questions I have are:
1. obviously there is a problem somewhere, what could it be?
2. what is 'reinitialized the link'? I'm ok at programming ports/phones, etc, but that's beyond my capabilities right now.
3. Should we upgrade? We used to have 2 tie lines to other facilities, but have consolidated so no longer use those. We have around 120 numbers (###-4100 through ###-4220) and only use around 2/3 of those. Could we move to something smaller/less expensive? VOIP is a requirement for an upgrade.

what do you get on a stat elan in ld 48 or a stat hsl?

1. MerMail is getting old, and vendors do not want to open a rats nest trying to replace parts on a system they may never get going again...that makes them look worse than if they just said "It's broke and we can't fix it...replace it"

2. In LD48, the AML Link. Essentially, disable and re-enable, or rebooting MerMail does that.

3. It's either upgrade/replace or live with what you have. The risk of rebooting the system and having MerMail never come back is there. Like I said, many vendors do not want to keep sticking you with charges, knowing that the following week, it may die again and you're going to be asking them for a refund or giving them a bad reference.

Reinitializing the Link" probably means they are disabling and re-enabling the AML link in LD 48. The constant locking up problem may indicate your hard drive is about to go. While it is "locked up", look at the light on it. Is it a steady green light or is it a slow flashing green light? A slow flashing green light usually indicates the hard drive.

Oh, and as far as the Maintenance Contract, I bet if you read through it, maintaining MerMail is on a "Best Effort" contingency...meaning, "We'll try, but there are no guarantees"

I'll do some checking on lunch, I'm in a class off-site right now but have been checking in with the administrative assistant periodically getting status updates.

Based on Wednesday's event, the green light was steady.

So any recommendations on what to do, upgrade or replace with a different system? If replace, any models that fit ~100 total lines with voip?

Thanks for the help, really fast.
