Hello all,

I have been trying to merge a tape with no success. At the end of the job is says that the merge was complete succesfully but it doesn't bucause when I try to restore, I can't see subfolder to restore. During the merge, status is either locating session or skipping.... but I choose to merge all sessions. I don't understand why it's skipping... any help will be helpful.

Thank you,

cj

The merge uses the catalog files that are at the end of the session to put the information into the database. You see skipping when the tape drive is going past the data on the tape and getting to the catalog file. locating session, skipping to catalog file. It sounds like the backup was set to only record the sumarry of the backup, which on logs the drive that was backed up and no details on the file. In the release notes there should be something about a registry setting "DoNotUseSequentialMerge" (I forget the exact name of the registry value). When it is set, the merge process should not use the catalog file, but read the tape and enter information into the database based on every file header that is on the tape.

If still not seeing the information, exit out of the ARCserve manager and re-enter to make sure there is not a refresh problem, or you could have problems with the ARCserve database itself.

HI,

It is "DoNotUseCatalogMerge"...

set this under...

HKLM\Soft\CA\AS\Base\Task\Merge..

If you do not have the Merge key.. create it..

Eeek..noooo..when you merge sessions from the tape database they don't go directly into the arcserve database on the server, instead they are stored as .cat files under the arcserve/tmp directory. When the merge finishes and says that it is successful, go to the arcerve temp directory and you will see the .cat files slowly disappearing. This can take anywhere up to 30 minutes sometimes to merge the data fully. It all depends on the size of the session being merged. Keep pushing the 'F5' refresh and you will see what I mean. Be patient!! :)
