I am running windows 98SE and have just installed a 128 & 256 of SDRam PC100 = 384 mb. My windows system is reading all the memory but when I go into Bios it is only reading 128. I tried removing the 128 and the Bios did not read any memory at all but my windows system read the full 256. Did I install too much for the computer to handle. Is there a limit to what I can install? Am I installing it correctly? Please help. I have a HP 455OZ PC.

I understand that some motherboards do have jumpers on them in order for you to set to recognise this amount of ram, read your moby manual.
Also this really is the max amount that SE can use, because of the way in which it uses the memory any more than you have at present will be of no benefit.
It doesn't sound like your problem but some motherboards cannot recognise the larger memory modules, by that I mean the individual chips on the memory stick, the smaller denominations may have 8mb chips where as the larger stick may have 16mb chips to make up the 256, it is these larger processors that the board may have a problem with. I am sure somebody will explain this more clearly to you. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

have you allowed BIOs to autodetect? every time you add hardware its a good idea to allow a BIOS refresh. I ran a DVD drive for 1 month before i refreseshed the bios and auto detected it!
Also - are you sure that both sticks of RAM are the same speed? If they are not it is not suprising that only one stick is detected at any one time.
