Hey all,
have an old p166...had all of 16 megs of edo ram...got 32 megs free (compaq style) from a co-worker. machine was running fine with the original 16. replaced with the new 32. machine gives no post beeps, hard drive lite is continuously lit. replaced new with old. same problem. had ram on another old board, tried those. same problem. ripped all the memory out. no post beeps. verified hard drive cable is correctly connected. made sure all cards are correctly seated. only thing I can figure is the memory shorted the mobo? Anyone?
thanx

Possibly shorted it out, but most likely just need to clean the contacts on the MB off. After a long time they get a buildup in them and the new RAM don't fit exactly like the old RAM. After moving the old RAM it don't fit back right either. Rob
Just my $.02.

Probable coincidence that the BIOS isn't processing now. Take it back to bare minimum, no HD, no floppy, and agitate your previously working memory in the slots to attempt to get to POST. You might also want to reseat the processor and possibly the BIOS chip. Ed Fair
