Hello Everyone, I am looking for some clarification on memory speed and how that affects the Front side bus speed. For example, The latest P4 motherboards run at 533Mhz FSB. What (if anything) happens by using PC800 VS. PC1066. Would this reduce FSB speed to 400Mhz?

Also, the same question applies with AMD processors and DDR ram.

Thank you,
Ken

knporter,

That's an excellent question. My understanding is that your FSB must run in sync with the memory. With that in mind, the motherboard has to support lower speeds. Otherwise, the FSB wouldn't be able to clock itself down to match the lower speed.

Perhaps someone with experience here could weigh in??

They spend a LOT of time benchmarking and checking specs on all kinds of hardware, right down to chipset level.

Hope this will give you some help..

Kimber There is no such thing as a dumb question. Only a dumb mistake because you didn't ask...
