I've got a Windows XP Pro SP3 pc that is having a problem with what looks like a memory leak. As long as the user is logged in, it has no problems. If the user logs out or if the PC is rebooted and no one logs in, within an hour, the PC drops from the network and needs to be rebooted. In fact, if you log in after it has dropped you can't open any programs, including Task Manager. The event log gets filled with the following after it drops:
Event ID 2019
Description:
The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty.

I've tried a new NIC, reinstalling the Novell Client 4.91 SP5, and disabling antivirus. What could be causing this odd pre-login behavior?

Is it a domain workstation or a workgroup computer?

Regards,
David

DTracy,
This is a workgroup computer.

linney,
I did all of the usual g searching and nothing I found applied. I've seen the ones you point out.

I'm looking for a process that can chew up memory only when the pc is idle and not logged in. Idle and logged in is not a problem.

I suppose you have been down this track too?

Look for third party applications that launch at boot time.

Does it occur in Safe Mode?

Have you tried starting up with BART or some other PE?

David.

I've narrowed it down to about 4 services (when they're all disabled, the problem goes away). When I have time I'll try each one to find the culprit.
