i am running win2000 and it has developed recently an annoying habit of screen turning blue and a series of numbers being displayed after which the message "beginning dump of physical memory" . This takes about 30 seconds or so and then pc restarts. Is this a fault of its own or is there a deeper problem that i should be looking for?
Any advice is of course gratefully received and accepted with many thanks

Hello

The blue screen with information on is called the Blue Screen of death (BSOD) and is used when there is a serious problem with the operating system that it is not able to handle.
Your system is obviously set to reboot after a bluescreen, but the information held on it can be useful in finding out what is wrong.

To turn off the automatic reboot after a BSOD, do the following:
1. Login as administrator or equivalent
2. Right click My Computer -> Properties -> System tab -> Settings in the Startup and Recovery section.
3. Untick the "Automatically Restart" option in the System Failure box then click OK.

When the system next crashes, note down what it says and post here (or in a new thread if its a while coming). You will need to press the reset button afterwards to recover, it is not possible to revert to the running Windows system.
