Memory Access violation

Every time I reboot my laptop I get an error "Memory Access Violation in module kernel" 5865:58456321

Any idea what casued this?

That could be either bad memory or some file that is corrupt.
I'd bet on the bad memory first though.
Try to find a replacement to test it. If you have more then one memory module in it, take one out try it, then the other is needed and see if the error is gone.
If it is not, it still can be the internal memory.
That, you can test with a memory checker.

If memory comes up clean, then more info would be needed, i.e. when did this start, and what has changed?

The stand alone memory diagnostics ran just fine, (ran them twice). The last thing done was a major update to Norton Internet Security. The error occurs when I boot the system and when I try to open Norton Internet Security. BTW, neither the Norton firewall or Norton anti-virus is running when I boot. Both should should be running.

Looks like the problem may well be with Norton but I can't open Norton nor can I uninstall it.

Have you tried uninstalling it from safe mode? If that doesn't work, you might try using the system restore function in Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and restore your system to a date before you applied the update.
